Shatner emotes Palin

28 July, 2009 (21:43) | amusing | By: xensen

Can emote be a transitive verb? Anyway, it was genius to have William Shatner read Sarah Palin’s farewell speech as pseudobeat poetry. I’d like to post a video, but apparently NBC prefers not to publicize its shows, as their video is not embeddable, unless you want to be threatened with legal action. Humor them: make them happy and click the image to view the video at their own site.

Dog and hound, separated at birth

11 April, 2009 (22:19) | huh | By: xensen

It started with the Obamas’ Portuguese Water Dog. I discovered that breed is related to the Irish Water Spaniel. Not a shocker — the surprise was who the Irish Water Spaniel is related to.

This picture is for the kid who keeps complaining that a previous post of a sea creature photo didn’t contain enough text for him to complete his homework.

This is a previously unknown species of jellyfish. Go read about it at Photos in the News.

This image, Moes Isley By TeMo80, based on Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, made me laugh. It’s one of a number of entries in a contest introducing Star Wars imagery into classic artworks. (There are a lot of Leias).

How old is this guy anyway?

14 July, 2008 (13:48) | scary | By: xensen

old old man

I’m no spring chicken myself, and I don’t particularly care about a presidential candidate’s age. But, I mean …

McCain explains how he accesses the internet, by having his staff log on for him:

They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself.

McCain on e-mail:

I don’t e-mail, I’ve never felt the particular need to e-mail.

Like I said, I’m not a young guy — and I e-mail with my dad.

cate blanchett lionThe UK has approved experiments that will mix elements of human and animal DNA.

According to Times Online:

Experiments to create Britain’s first embryos that combine human and animal material will begin within months after a government watchdog gave its approval yesterday to two research teams to carry out the controversial work.

Scientists at King’s College London, and the University of Newcastle will inject human DNA into empty eggs from cows to create embryos known as cytoplasmic hybrids, which are 99.9 per cent human in genetic terms.

It’s a brave new world.

U.S. politics: confusing

26 January, 2008 (13:01) | weird | By: xensen

In this year’s South Carolina primaries, John McCain got 33 percent of the vote, compared to 42 percent in 2000, when he received 93,000 more votes than this time. But his 2000 performance knocked him out as a serious contender against GWB, whereas this year’s has made him the GOP frontrunner.

Go figure.
