About
Freeform (adj.): not confined to any particular genre.
The title of this blog comes from my first book-length translation, a technical translation done for a big international corporation when I was a student at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. It was called Frozen Coagulated Cultures in Wine, Cheese, and Sauerkraut Production. You’ve probably read it.
Since then I’ve done a lot of translations — and even a book about translating. But that just happened. I didn’t aspire to being a translator when I was a kid. As I recall I wanted to be a forest ranger. And that still seems like a pretty good choice, after sitting at a desk all day long.
FCC is my free-wheeling blog, where I cover whatever strikes my fancy (and break all the search engine marketing rules). I hope it will be interesting and entertaining. If its signal seems too noisy to you, you might try try one of these more focused blogs:
- Rightreading: print and electronic publishing (broadly defined)
- Frisco Vista: Northern Californiana
- Buried Mirror: Mesoamerica and the world of the Maya
